Arena’s artist-in-residence programs are a unique way to
provide students with access to professional artists.
Each residency is special and bespoke, but may involve installation,
performance, multimedia and/or music.
See the video below to see an example of an Arena school residency.
Arena’s long-term in-school art residencies build dynamic and creative spaces where young people and professional artists meet on equal terms. Deep listening is combined with play, respect and a profound understanding of the power of transformation through shared stories. Arena’s residencies are designed to empower, inspire and allow young people to define themselves and the paces they occupy. Reflected through the skills of professional artists, their stories are honoured and transformed in ways they could never have imagined, while at the same time being utterly recognisable as their own.
“I wanted to let you know that my students were full of pride for their songs and all had respect for and buy-in to the stories of their classmates. They talked me through the process that they had undertaken and how they had come to the end product. I was so impressed and happy with this impromptu feedback and I wanted to share it with you. It feels like the session had a significant impact. How wonderful.”
