Australia’s live performance industry has spoken. Arena Theatre’s heart-warming production Robot Song has taken home the trophy in its category of Best Presentation for Children and Young People at the 19th annual Helpmann Awards in Melbourne.

Established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia (LPA), the Helpmann Awards, named in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann commemorate his memory and achievements, recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia’s vibrant live performance sectors.

We believe this is the first time a Bendigo company has ever won a Helpmann Award. This is Arena’s fourth Helpmann Award nomination, and its first ever win.

Robot Song premiered at The Engine Room, Bendigo, in July 2018, shortly after Arena relocated from Melbourne to Bendigo to become the resident company of the Capital Venues & Events complex. Robot Song is on the 2019 VCE Drama and Theatre Studies play list.
