Facilitating the development of new works for young audiences...
The Bendigo Studio Immersive Stages program is designed to support research and development of interactive works that are driven by audience participation and live experiences.
The Bendigo Studio is designed to bring together professional theatre companies, designers, and technologists to incubate innovative new works for children, young people and families.
First piloted in 2019, some of Australia’s most highly regarded companies and creative teams came together at Bendigo’s Capital Theatre for a week to work on their newest projects and discuss their thoughts and ideas. Seven creative teams were provided with resources including spaces, mentors, and professionally trained actors, to develop a new theatre work. Participants enjoyed opportunities to network, share skills and ideas, seek advice, and discuss issues relating to the professional Theatre for Young Audiences sector.
Among the high calibre of participating artists were creative teams from Arena, Barking Gecko, ATYP and Polyglot, independent artists Fleur Kilpatrick and Sarah Walker, and playwrights Dan Giovannoni and Amelia Evans and local, and Bendigo locals Megan Beckwith, and Paris Balla and her team.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for local artists to develop their networks nationally and benefit from the extraordinary depth of experience that will be in Bendigo during that week,” says Leavesley.
